Creative Cutouts
SUPPLIES:
- DL112A Angel Wings for DL112 butterflies by Cheery Lynn Designs
- Cardstock
- Removable Tape
- Big Shot/ Vagabond, Cuttlebug or other personal die cutting machine

Begin by taping an angel wing to a piece of card stock using removable tape. I've used one of the DL112A Angel Wing Dies, they come in a set of three differently shaped butterflies. Run through your machine to die cut. My sandwich was platform - acrylic plate - die facing up on paper - C thick cutting plate.

Flip over the cardstock and repeat the previous step, this time leaving a little bit of space between the already cut butterfly half and the butterfly die that you are taping to the cardstock. Run through your machine again and there you have a pretty cut butterfly that stays on your paper.

Stacey's Sparkly
Stained Glass Technique
(video coming soon!)
SUPPLIES:
• Scor-Tape (1/2" for smaller images, 2" or 2-1/2" for larger images like frames)
• Detailed die by Cheery Lynn Designs (my favorites are the DL112 & DL113 butterflies, the dragonflies and frames)
• 36# Vellum
• Sparkly Sweet Ultrafine Transparent Glitter
• 2 colors of cardstock (only 1 color needed for full card size frame dies)
• Removable tape (for positioning your dies)
• Fade resistant coloring media (colored pencils, Pitt Pens, watercolor pencils with Dove Blender, Shades™ dye ink)
• Personal die cutting machine (like Big Shot™, Cuttlebug™, Vagabond™)
DIRECTIONS:
Cut die from 2 colors of cardstock. Place the die cut image from one cardstock into the negative space of the other (repeat for other color of card stock). Put Scor-Tape over openings in die cut on back side and leave the paper liner on.
Sprinkle Sparkly Sweet glitter into exposed sticky Scor-Tape openings on the front. Remove paper liner from Scor-Tape on the back and cover with 36# vellum. Trim any excess vellum that is sticking out over edges.
Color the openings on the vellum with fade resistant markers, archival inks or colored pencils. You can use a Dove™ Blender Pen to move colors around on the vellum. I used Pitt Pens by Faber Castell for the example shown here.
Adhere your stained glass image onto a light piece of cardstock so the colored sparkly stained glass shows thru.
In the sample above, I used 1/2" Scor-Tape to border an A2 white card and placed the stained glass layer onto the tape. Fantasy Silver EP was sprinkled over the remaining exposed tape and heated with a heat embossing gun.

Die Cutting Machine Sandwich Recipes
Can't remember the "recipe" for stacking your plates and dies in your Cuttlebug, Big Shot or Vagabond? This will help!
Big Shot/Vagabond DIE CUTTING sandwich (from the bottom up):
Platform • clear acrylic plate • metal adapter plate • die (cutting side up) • paper •clear acrylic plate
Cuttlebug DIE CUTTING sandwich (from the bottom up):
A plate • metal adapter plate • C plate • paper • die (cutting side down) • B plate
TIPS for cutting intricate dies Since machines may vary, and the thickness of the paper you are cutting through can also make a difference, try these tips to achieve the best die cuts:
• Keep the die from moving around by attaching the die to the paper with removable tape
• You may need to rotate the die after the first cut and run it through your machine again
• Emboss the die into your paper first (using thin & thick embossing pads) then cut using the metal adapter plate
• Finding it difficult to remove the paper cutout from your die? Try cutting through a piece of wax paper along with the paper you are cutting. Place the wax paper between the die and paper you want to cut out, this helps to lubricate the die so the paper comes out easily.

Parchment Craft White Working

Stamps with simple lines work best. By etching and embossing the vellum, you are left with a beautiful design in white, like the cards shown above. Notice how when you lightly emboss the edges of the roses they have a shaded look. As you can see in the cards above, white working looks gorgeous layered onto any color of paper.
Stamps used:
Butterfly & Roses card: 423 Cutwork Card (outside frame only) and 7020 Rose Oval
Rose in Oval card: 424 Oval Scroll Frame and 7047 Embroidery Rose
Heat emboss the image with a fine detail embossing powder or dry emboss the image by turning your parchment paper over and tracing the stamped lines with a stylus. Remember to use an etching/ embossing mat under your vellum.
